The Bonsai tree was commissioned by Lat 43 Restaurant in Gloucester, MA and is a functional piece of art. This tree needed to be both a screen behind people who were sitting at the sushi bar, and a dividing wall between a wait staff aisle and the sushi bar. The tops of the tree all needed to be soft and flexible so if anyone bumped into it, it would give a little. Each branch was heated and bent into a cluster. These clusters were woven into one another yet all separate. They act like springs when someone rubs against them.
