OCTOPUS

2017 - I wonder when Jules Verne wrote 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, he ever imagined one of his sea monsters hovering in a corporate stairwell.  This 15' Octopus surrounded by glass railings feels contained in a sea of its own.

With the help of the MIT glass lab, they said this was the largest quantity of glass they ever attempted to blow into one of my sculptures.  The glass alone was almost 40 lbs. and 28" in length.   In addition to the blown glass head, we have added glass webbing between each arm, creating a balance of materials within the concept.  The glass is slumped over custom molds to create this fluid feature.
